The ping command allows you to test if a device is accessible from the internet or your local network. 

You can PING devices from either the Windows or Mac command line (win + R, type "Run" > click OK)

You can PING a server or device using its IP address or hostname, which will return it’s IP address. Below is an example of what is returned when a working server is pinged:
