Should You Start a Blog?

The answer is YES!

Many argue that blogging has died since the rise in social media platforms such as YouTube, Instagram, Facebook etc. however, according to Impact, 77% of Internet users still read blogs. This shows that blogging is still alive and well, but it is evolving.

Think about it, how many times do you Google a question a day? That is all the proof you need to know blogging is still valuable. Audiences are moving away from wanting personal content, and in-fact want their questions answered. Therefore, to make your blog successful, you need to be teaching your audience something.

So, you know you want to start a blog but not sure where to begin? Here are some things you need to think about:

What is your blog for?

Is it to inform, engage, and/or educate about something specific? Consider what the intention of the content is and who you are looking to reach.

What is the focus of your blog?

What topics will your blog cover? Avoid getting lost in the sea of your competition, write about niche topics or answer specific questions.

Who is your target audience?

What are their interests and behaviours? What do they want to know? The more specific you are, the more effectively you can target them.

Track your analytics

It is important to measure the performance of your posts. Find out what posts are doing well, that way you better your understanding of what topics your audience are wanting to read about, so you can focus your energy on this area. With this data, you will gauge a better understanding of how often to post, what to post about and at what times.

Find your voice

Now you know what you want to write about, and who you are writing to, it is time to think about how you will write it. How are you going to communicate best with your audience? Doing this right will capture their attention, will you be formal or informal? Will your blog posts be short or long? It is important to remember to inject personality into blog posts; this will allow you to create a relationship that keeps your target audience coming back.
