How to Add reCAPTCHA and Confirmation Checkbox to Gravity Forms

Introduction

It’s important to add reCAPTCHA and a confirmation checkbox to the end of all forms to ensure that submissions are all legitimate. Without these, bots can fill in the forms which can result in skewed data.

Guide

  1. Login to the website
  2. Click the Gravity Forms plugin on the left-hand-side of the dashboard (if the website doesn’t already have this, download it from the plugins section)
  3. From this screen, you can either edit an existing form by hovering over the name and clicking ‘edit’, or click the blue ‘Add New’ button to build a new form
  4. Drag and drop the consent field to the bottom of the form and add a sentence such as ‘This form collects your data so that we can correspond with you. Check out our privacy policy for more information’ to the ‘Checkbox Label’
  5. On the consent fields, check the ‘required’ box to ensure that users cannot submit the form without completing this step
  6. Next, drag and drop the ‘CAPTCHA’ field beneath the consent box and click the blue ‘save form’ button

  1. If reCAPTCHA has not been linked to the website and the CAPTCHA box is not displaying, visit https://www.google.com/recaptcha/admin/site/449740621
  2. Ensure that you select the correct account from the dropdown in the top left corner

  1. Click the ‘settings’ icon in the top right corner, then add your domain name to the list of domains and click the blue ‘save’ button
  2. Once your domain has been added, you can find the site key and secret key beneath the ‘reCAPTCHA keys’ dropdown

  1. Go back to the WordPress website, select the Gravity Forms plugin from the dashboard and click ‘Settings’
  2. Click the ‘reCAPTCHA’ option from the menu on the left, then enter your site key and secret key into the empty fields
  3. Click the ‘Save Settings’ button and then check that your form is displaying correctly on the frontend (if it isn’t you may need to double check that the keys you have entered are correct)
